55th London International Boat Show opens today to celebrate boating
The London International Boat Show returns to ExCeL today, Friday 9 January
2009, to celebrate 55 years of bringing the best of boating to the nationıs
capital.
The Show was officially launched at 11.00am today by model, actress and TV
presenter Kelly Brook.

On declaring the Show open, Kelly said: ³Itıs a great privilege to be here
today and to open the London International Boat Show. There is something for
everyone at the Show this year, whether youıre a sailing novice or seasoned
enthusiast the Boat Show promises a fantastic day out, I would strongly
recommend a visit!²
From today until Sunday 18 January thousands of visitors have a marine
treasure trove to explore. With over 500 exhibitors displaying their
products and services, the London International Boat Show is the biggest and
busiest showcase for the marine industry in the capitalıs calendar.
Showcasing power and sail boats, dinghies, deck equipment, sailing courses,
chandlery and more, the Show promises something for enthusiasts and first
time visitors alike. Whether youıre looking to kick start a new hobby,
gather ideas for a summertime sailing holiday or simply enjoy a leisurely
wander around, you canıt fail to be inspired by the Showıs fantastic
atmosphere and energy.
The Main Stage - Powered by Fairline is the Showıs focal point and features
an array of fascinating displays. Daily live performances of A Mermaidıs
Tale, a captivating blend of dance and acrobatics set to a high energy
musical score is sure to capture the imagination of audiences all ages. The
countryıs favourite boating legends, including Dame Ellen MacArthur and Sir
Keith Mills, will tread the boards to deliver inspirational accounts of
their personal experiences, while representatives from Skandia Team GBR will
share a sneak preview of the preparations for London 2012.
Inspiring sailors and boating enthusiasts of the future, Life as a is a
daily feature designed to give a flavour of life within the marine industry.
Engaging talks and demonstrations provide a snapshot of life as a coastguard
helicopter pilot, RNLI crew member, river police officer, yachting
instructor and even a Royal Navy captain.
Other features not to be missed include:
· Deck Games (supported by Yachts & Yachting) the perfect opportunity to
try your hand at a kayaking, canoeing with Avoncraft and model boat racing
with Micro Magicı compete for glory against family and friends
· The Showıs Regatta, fast-paced Thundercat demonstrations will thrill
spectators, while the Yachts & Yachting Battle of the Classes: Pursuits Race
rounds off the final weekend
· Classic Boat (supported by Classic Boat, Old Pulteney and International
Paint), the chance to watch, learn and talk to experts about classic boats
and the skills required for their traditional restoration. Catch an update
on the progression of the Cutty Sark conservation project throughout the
Show when the Cutty Sark Trust will be bringing back to life original parts
of this famous Tea Clipper
· HMS Westminster, the Royal Naval warship will be on moored throughout the
Show at Royal Victoria Dock, right outside ExCeL.
With so much to see, enjoy and do, the Show promises an ideal, action packed
family day out. Show tickets offer great value, particularly for families as
each adult ticket purchased admits two children aged 15 and under, meaning
Kids go free.

· The London International Boat Show is Londonıs largest boat Show

· The smallest boat at the Show is 1.4m long - the Autoculture mini yacht,
designed for children, costing £549
· There are 34 press events alone on the first day of the Show with launches
from Avon Inflatables to Zodiac, and a total of 57 exhibitor events
throughout the 10 day duration of the Show
· There are some exclusive world, European and UK launches at the Show
featuring Sunseeker, Moody, Fairline, Ahoy Boats, Henri Lloyd, Helly Hansen,
Rinker and Eberspracher to name a few.
Boating pastimes at the Show
· Itıs not just boats that visitors can experience at the London
International Boat Show exhibitors will be showcasing products from a wide
range of watersports such as wind-surfing, canoeing, kayaking, surfing,
rowing, jet skiing, water skiing, skimboarding, body boarding and more!
· Families can find out how to get involved in boating from as little as
£250, simply by joining a sailing club and learning the ropes!
HMS Westminster
· HMS Westminster holds the most crew at any one time of any craft at the
Show, with quarters for 185 on board
· The effectiveness of HMS Westminster is enhanced by its stealth design,
which reduces its radar signature significantly
· The present HMS Westminster was built by Swan Hunter Shipbuilders Limited
on the river Tyne. She was launched by Lady Livesay on the 9 February 1992,
and accepted into Naval Service at the end of 1993

· HRH Princess Royal will be at the Show on Wednesday 15 January 2008
· Well known faces such as Kelly Brook, Chris Packham, Robin Gibb, Only Men
Aloud!, Sir Robin Knox Johnston, Dame Ellen MacArthur will be at the Show
over the 10 day duration
