Dubai International Boat Show will appeal
to those whose watersports passions extend to what lies under the water, once again featuring the Dive Middle East Exhibition (DMEX) as part of its extensive range of attractions.

Held in collaboration with the Emirates Diving Association, DMEX is the only exhibition of its type in the Middle East, showcasing the latest diving equipment, supplies, and services. It offers visitors the chance to submerse themselves in a world of adventure, from absolute beginners through to the most experienced diving enthusiasts.
“We have a very active diving community in the UAE, and of course diving for pearls was an important part of our life in the Gulf for many hundreds of years,” said Ibrahim Al-Zu’bi, EDA Executive Director. “The Emirates Dive Association works to support diving as an enjoyable, sustainable sport for people passionate about the marine environment. DMEX is an opportunity for divers to take their sport to the next level, or a first step towards trying SCUBA diving for the first time.”

The event includes a PADI Village showcasing dive shops from around the region, interactive demonstrations by qualified instructors in the DMEX pool, networking with industry leaders in the diving community, and displays showing the latest innovations in diving equipment never seen before in the region. New products will include the latest developments in underwater drones from Deep Trekker; Aqua Lung’s 70th Anniversary Limited Edition, top of the range Legend regulator from Al Boom Diving, and new Hydro Jets from Deep Blue Sea Diving. There will also be an exhibition of finalists from the DMEX underwater photography competition, with a public vote to decide the winners.
“Scuba diving offers real adventure in the real world,” said Colin Nelson, General Manager of Al Boom Diving Company, one of the UAE’s leading dive shops and schools and a major exhibitor at DMEX. “It gives us a chance to explore a completely new world that lies just below the water. We see this world in film or on nature programmes, but when people experience it for themselves, they are amazed.”

The Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) has helped around 24 million people learn SCUBA diving since 1967, and now issues around 900,000 certifications worldwide per year. The EDA lists 24 dive schools offering PADI courses in the UAE. More than 2,500 divers are registered on the association’s database, with many others not being members. SCUBA diving is a sport particularly suited to the Gulf states, with warm water temperatures and a number of excellent dive locations close by.
“Diving in the Indian Ocean in Fujairah is exceptional, teeming with marine life including an abundance of reef fish, as well as turtles and eels,” said Colin Nelson. “There is also spectacular diving in Oman, including from a traditional dhow in the Musandam, where breathtaking fjords descend into crystal-clear waters, and in the UNESCO marine reserve around the Daymaniyat Islands north of Muscat.”

First held in 2007, DMEX has played an important role in expanding Dubai International Boat Show into a complete watersports lifestyle experience.
“Watersports of all kinds are increasingly popular in the region,” said Trixie LohMirmand, Senior Vice President of Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), organisers of Dubai International Boat Show. “They range from the exclusive yachts Dubai International Boat Show is famous for, through to active sports such as wakeboarding and kitesurfing, or simply going on a fishing trip. Diving is an exciting part of that lifestyle.”

The 24th Dubai International Boat Show at Dubai International Marine Club - Mina Seyahi is open to trade visitors and the general public from 3pm – 9.30pm daily from 1 – 5 March 2016, with a single entry ticket cost of AED 60.
