Oceans of Hope celebrates the first year at sea
Happy Birthday Oceans of Hope!
On June 15, 2014 Oceans of Hope set sail from Copenhagen Harbour. The first day of a 17-month global journey with an ever-changing international crew with multiple sclerosis (MS) and stopovers in 30 ports around the world. Now we can celebrate the first year at sea, which has been blessed with new friends around the world, outstanding achievements by the more than 70 crewmembers who have taken part in the journey as well as the legacy of inspiration, hope and potential that has been left in her wake.
Oceans of Hope is currently on her way to Darwin, Australia with the following MS crewmembers: Brenden Grant Edwards, Vince Leccese, Andrew Potter, Tini Bauters, Cindy Berrios and Bente Margrethe Messmann.
Help us fundraise for Barcelona – the end of our first world circumnavigation. OOH will arrive in Marina Port Vell in Barcelona on October 5, 2015 and we hope to see as many MS crewmembers as possible. The more money we raise, the bigger the party!
The journey so far and into the future
In this video the Founder of Oceans of Hope, Mikkel Anthonisen, talks about the idea behind the project, the stories of hope and transformation, which have arisen from the journey and the plans for the future. The story continues.

After Darwin OOH will continue on to Bali and Singapore where she will be loaded onto a Maersk container ship and carried to Ambarli in Turkey in order to avoid piracy off Africa’s shores, the Gulf of Aden, as well as the monsoon season in the Arabian Sea.
Icelandic/Norwegian MS crewmember, Bjarni Dagbjartsson, has blogged about his OOH experience before, during and after the Sydney to Cairns leg he participated in. Now he's looking forward to seeing his new friends again in Barcelona.
Oceans of Hope on New Zealand TV show Gone Fishin' with Graeme Sinclair
The New Zealand TV show Gone Fishin' with Graeme Sinclair is a slice of outdoor New Zealand designed around a central fishing theme. Graeme has MS and while Oceans of Hope was anchored in Auckland, he came down to have a chat with OOH Founder Mikkel Anthonisen. The episode was recently aired on TV3 in New Zealand, but we have been given special permission to share it with all of you. Enjoy!
A Global Voyage to Change Perceptions of Multiple Sclerosis
The Sailing Sclerosis project, Oceans of Hope, is the first ever circumnavigation by a yacht crewed by people with MS. The project will change the perception of multiple sclerosis by showing what is possible when people with a chronic disease are empowered to conquer their individual challenges, by engaging those whose lives are touched by MS and developing networks as a foundation for life-changing behaviours.
Biogen is the Official Partner of Oceans of Hope. Through cutting-edge science and medicine Biogen discovers, develops and delivers to patients worldwide innovative therapies for the treatment of MS. Founded in 1978, Biogen is the world's oldest independent biotechnology company.
