Clipper Round the World Fleet at Dennis Conner's North Cove
The ten boat Clipper Round the World Race Fleet is docked at North Cove this week.
These are robust 72 foot boats which race around the world form port to port.
This is the third time the Clipper Round the World Race has stopped at Dennis Conner's
North Cove. What a great honor for Battery Park City and Lower Manhattan.
There is a great amount of activity around the docks. Each boat is crewed by 18
sailors. Tuesday is change over day with some of the old crew depart and new crew
arrives. On Sunday, the fleet did their own mini-parade from the Statue of Liberty
to North Cove to mark Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee.
You can participate in this race. What makes it unique is that the crew is made
up of average people who decide to go for it. They buy a spot for one or more
legs and then head off to sea!
Full details about the Clipper Race, including some great pictures from their NYC
stopover, are at www.clipperroundtheworld.com/
The Clipper Fleet will only be here until Thursday when the race restarts, so stop
by soon to see the super cool boats. Don't be shy. Say "Hello!" to som eof the
sailors, they are a friendly bunch.
