Manhattan Sailing Club
Come Meet Giovanni Soldini, Tues. Dec 11.
Giovanni Soldini, Italy's greatest sailor, has arrived at Dennis Conner's North
Cove in Manhattan. He has come on his incredible race boat "Maserati" to challenge
the New York to San Francisco sailing record.
On Tuesday, December 11 at 6:30 p.m, all sailing enthusiasts are invited to meet
Giovanni and hear him speak. The gathering will be held on the Honorable William
Wall, Manhattan Sailing Club's floating clubhouse which is docked at North Cove
in front of the World Financial center in Battery Park City. Admission is free
but RSVP is required because of limited space. Please RSVP to ali@sailmanhattan.com
[mailto:ali@sailmanhattan.com].
Giovanni Soldini is one of the world's greatest ocean racers. He has won the single-handed
Round the World Race as well as many trans-Atlantic and other major events.
The New York to San Francisco sailing record celebrates the route taken by great
clipper ships during the California gold rush. It starts in New York City, goes
down South America, around Cape Horn and then back up the West Coast to San Francisco.
The record of 89 days and 8 hours was set by the Flying Cloud in 1854 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Cloud_(clipper
and not broken until 1989.
More details on Giovanni's record attempt are at http://maserati.soldini.it/?lang=en
Don't miss this rare opportunity right in Manhattan to meet and hear one of the
greatest ocean sailors in the world. You can follow Giovanni as he and his crew
set out this winter to challenge one of the greatest records in sailing.
