22/12/2008 07:12 Foncia gains ground...
Michel Desjoyeaux onboard Foncia has been leading the fleet of the
Vendée Globe since last Tuesday after the dismasting of Mike Golding. He
widened the gap again throughout the night with the 3 others skippers of
the frontrunners group, and is now 77,5 miles ahead of Roland Jourdain
and 183 ahead of Sébastien. While the battle is intense on the racing
front, Yann Eliès has been tranfered to Perth's hospital during the
night and his team is on his way to recover Generali.
21/12/2008 15:47 Spoiling for a fight
"Conditions are quite calm today with 20-25 knots, and we even had some
sun today! We are in a transition area between two low pressure
systems," reported Seb. "In the next 24 hours, nothing special will
happen. Things will start to get more complicated when we will arrive
close to the New Zealand Gate as there's a big low pressure arriving and
the tactical battle will go on! That's exactly what I need, some close
battle with tactical analysis and decision. I prefer it to a drag race!"

21/12/2008 08:02 Slowing down (slightly!)
Having crossed the 147 degrees of longitude yesterday, BT is now no
longer sailing in the Indian Ocean but the Pacific Ocean (the Southern
Ocean being the collective name for these 2 oceans) and no change in the
last 24 hours as Sébastien continues to hold 3rd place, 170 miles behind
Michel Desjoyeaux (Foncia). The leader has momentarily slowed as Foncia
feels the effects of the ridge of high pressure ahead and this will
touch the chasing 3 boats today. For now 4th placed Jean Le Cam is
benefitting from stronger breeze and covered over 400 miles in the last
24 hrs. So perhaps a small compression for the frontrunners but don't
expect Desjoyeaux to yield any miles of his advantage easily.
