Pirates return to the race track after 24 pitstop in Albany
Albany, Western Australia January 17, 2006

Having made a 24 hour pit stop in Albany, Western Australia to make repairs to the damaged keel ram, The Black Pearl and her team of Pirates are heading back out to the race track and expect to resume racing at approximately 17.30 GMT today.

The Black Pearl suspended racing at 1448GMT on 16th January after passing through the Eclipse Island scoring gate and picking up a crucial further two points.

They are still in the race with third placed Movistar reported to be just 225 miles ahead at 1600GMT, and ING Real Estate Brunel 551 nautical miles behind, meaning Pirates will resume racing in fourth place as they complete leg two of the Volvo Ocean Race from Cape Town to Melbourne, Australia.

Paul Cayard, Skipper of the The Black Pearl “The repairs to the Black Pearl have been completed and she will leave the dock in Albany within the hour. It will then take her 1 more hour to reach the point at which she suspended racing yesterday. From that point in time, she will be racing toward Melbourne and expect to arrive in 5 days time.”

Robert Mitchell, Managing Director Buena Vista International, UK “We entered into the Volvo Ocean Race expecting the unexpected and with a spirit of adventure. And boy, have we had adventure. Like the journey of our heroes in the original movie our heroes in this race have faced some uncomfortable moments but they are coming through them and will be better for it”.
Kimo Worthington, General Manager, Pirates of the Caribbean “We have made a temporary repair to the keel ram over the past 24 hours, the new ram will be waiting in Melbourne when The Black Pearl arrives. The team will then make the necessary repairs and be back racing in time for the In Port Racing on 4th February.
