They couldn’t have had a better start to the Millennium. 62 to 82 days of
an extraordinary adventure. And now? The first three giant catamarans
have demonstrated their reliability and revealed their true potential. So
now they will be off in pursuit of further records.
But first of all, the boats are going for a face-lift.
Club Med will be spending three weeks in a boatyard in La Ciotat, not far from
Marseilles. The same yard where the Maxi 80s and Grant Dalton’s two 60 ft
monohulls for the Volvo Ocean Race are currently being built.
Team Adventure is off for ten days in the sunshine in Palma, Majorca for some
skin treatment! She should then be on top form to tackle the Cadiz – San Salvador
Discovery Route Atlantic record. The record for this route, which was a qualifying
route for The Race, has been held by Club Med since June 2000.
She will then head for the US, where she will probably have a go at the
Miami-New-York time.
"Crazy Cam", visibly intoxicated by the feelings that his mighty machine has given
him, tells us that he intends to go for the New-York /Lizard Point record as soon as
he has put together his new team in the United States.
Innovation Explorer will be staying in Marseilles for now and is confident of notching
up some Mediterranean records.
For them all, there will be little respite. Good luck!
