Trading Distance For Speed
SEB is still spearheading the Volvo Ocean Race fleet towards Bass Strait, the sea that separates Australia from Tasmania. While SEB is still sailing a direct course, the yachts behind go further to the south to pick up slightly stronger winds. ASSA ABLOY and Amer Sports One already report winds of more than 20 knots, while SEB sails in around seventeen. The approach to Bass Strait will line up the fleet and with the distance, established between illbruck and News Corp, it will become hard to find a passing lane.
Amer Sports One was held up in their attempt to overtake djuice by gear problems.
Unfortunately for the girls on Amer Sports Too, reaching conditions are out of sight and they have to continue to beat into light headwinds. Their ETA in Sydney has already dropped to December 5 and is likely to move further back.
