To beat the record set in 1997 by Olivier de Kersauson on Sport Elec (71 days 14h 22mn), Bruno Peyron and his 12 crewmen must return before 12th May 2002 at 22h 57mn 29s GMT. A steering problem rendered the boat un-manoeuvrable at high speed and under certain conditions, and the impossibility of making repairs at sea have forced the Jules Verne Trophy record-holder to turn back towards Brest.
