LOGBOOK from Nick : received Monday morning
very difficult beginning. trying to decide what sails to put up in strong winds with first attempt [at leaving a] disaster fresh in every ones minds.
fresh running so far 30-40 kts of wind. between 2 reefs and full index with spinnaker. angle in Biscay was very square forcing ordinary jibe angles thus not a very fast first 24hr.
last night lots of shipping approaching finistere. had to rag spinnaker in order to take stern of one ship at around 11pm. quite stressful for a period.
early morning still dark, almost lost staysail when front tramp opened up about 10 m. now repaired and safe.
getting warmer. can feel hands again! its been pretty wet and cold...as ever.
spin tack strop broke about 2 hours ago and are now on to reacher and full index. boatspeed 25kts. you quickly get used to this speed!
currently surrounded by lightning - prepared to reef but happy to be making good progress around low and approaching latitude of Gibralter...not bad for a weekend's work.
not as fast as Geronimo was on her way down but happy with exit window considering our depart situation.
looking at decreasing winds sometime tomorrow.
happy to be at sea
