Latest news from Nick Moloney to Dr Krumnacker Segel.de
* The boys on Orange are enjoying the ride towards the Equator, with sustained 20+ knot averages...and a top speed of 31 knots claimed by the Breton watch of Herve Jan!
* After 2500 miles of high speed sailing, Nick and the men in Orange are over a 1000 miles ahead of the record (ie comparison of positions with SPORT ELEC, the record holder at same point in time).
* At 0800 GMT today aprox 700 miles from the Equator - but with the challenge of picking a way through the Doldrums before crossing in to the Southern Hemisphere
* For Nick, hoping to erase memories of a difficult passage of the Cape Verde Islands in the Transat Jacques Vabre last November onboard Kingfisher -lost 60 miles to the opposition in one morning!

LOGBOOK ENTRY
Don't know...is it day 5?
Anyway...we have had an AWESOME 30 or so hours. Orange is just cruzin. We were supposed to lose the wind yesterday but we have indextained strength 18-20kts and direction 90-110. Speed always in the 20s [knots]
Should pass Cape Verde to the west tonight or early hours of tomorrow morning and be under 1000 to the equator.
Today has been overcast which is a slight relief as we got a little too much sun on the face yesterday. Were back in foul weather gear this morning with boatspeed hitting 30kts and a bit too much spray about. A little hot but happy to be stonking. Shorts and T-shirt since lunch time.
We have been changing sails a lot since the beginning but that has slowed a little due to consistent speed and direction of the wind here in the Trade Winds. Have just changed from reacher to gennaker to get away (west) of the Cape Verde islands...memories of a horrible day in the TJV are in my mind...
Starting to see strong cloud influence in the night so the big squalls are not too far away.
The food has been amazing, all things considered. Last night Duck with cheese ravioli (sill product). We are well and relatively rested...mum will be happy to hear.
I am so happy to be warm. I was not made to live in a cold climate.
Bruno on the helm leading the charge.
