just pushing through a large squall right now and have turned up the wick a
little. Currently 1 reef in index and solent headsail sitting on 28kts. Its
great to get some pace on again whilst the water is flat. Unfortunately I
feel it will be short lived but good for spirits any way.
Had a small problem a few hours ago when steering cables broke. Herve was
driving and I was tending to the jib sheet half asleep when Herve started
winding the wheel over to port...1 revolution...2revolutions. He didnt say
anything just kept winding the wheel over. I was looking out of the corner
of my eye thinking...whats he doing? Then he started calling to the other
guys in French and then he said to me' mate. I think you'd better grab the
other wheel'
I ran across the tramp to the port wheel and pulled the boat back onto
course....OK, Im awake now.
No drama, fortunately the wind dropped for the period spent replacing the
cables which took about 1/2 an hour.
Otherwise all is well. The temperature is pleasant. We are still pushing
NNW to skirt the Azores High. Not really making much ground on finish due
to current course determined by Weather but we have around 2,400 miles left
to sail...roughly.
the weather is quite unstable due to the amount of squalls about. I think
today is going to be a tough day on the good ship Orange.
