CLIPPER 2002 RACE START: 27, OCTOBER 2002 FROM LIVERPOOL, UK.
CEREMONIAL CLIPPER FLEET ARRIVAL IN LIVERPOOL DELAYED
The fleet of eight Clipper round-the-world yachts are sheltered safely in Falmouth, due to the current and forecast gales in the SW Approaches.
The yachts were due to arrive in Liverpool at 09:00 on Thursday, 17 October following the final Clipper 2002 training race which set sail from Brixham in Torbay yesterday.
A decision will be made when it is prudent for them to sail and the Press Conference scheduled for 12:00 on Thursday, 17 October will be postponed as a result of the delay. Further details made available as soon as possible.
Colin de Mowbray, Race Director for the Clipper 2002 Race, commented: "The yachts are presently safe in the harbour in Falmouth and will be setting off for their return back to Liverpool just as soon as it is sensible. We might miss a couple of days in Liverpool's Albert Dock which is a shame, however I know the crew have the capacity to make up for that! They know there is a warm welcome waiting and I believe we are going to have a tremendous week leading up to the start."
