IN BRIEF
* The decisions were drawn during the night : a good opportunity for
Ellen MacArthur to change her position, which is now less than 9 miles
from the leader TISCALI. The three leading boats are navigating close
to the portuguese coast, whereas Bernard Stamm is now off the coast
by taking the west of Portugal.
* This morning, Ellen seems to be satisfied with the last hours of
navigation and happy to have taken 3rd position. "We have had lighter
airs in the last 24 hours. Now navigating in good conditions, and this
morning we seem to have recovered the miles we lost during the night".
* After the Bob Escoffier's withdrawal (Adecco-Etoile horizon) yesterday
seven boats are still in the race. The leading group, including Sill
Plein Fruit, Tiscali and Kingfisher, are navigating neck and neck,
about forty miles from their direct competitors. Forcast is for calm
and light winds time to seek light squalls.

LEARNING AND UNDERSTANDING : Two ways of navigating
The skipper's role depends on whether he/she is alone or with a crew.
When it's a solo navigation, The skipper is the master on board,
responsible for the smooth running of the boat, deals with the
weather conditions, the sails, his/her bodyŠand to choose the right
route. With a crew on board, the tasks are different, need to keep ears
open and to co-ordinate the crew's work. He/she has the final decision :
there must be a leader on board !
