in the engine box for Ellen and Jonny, sorting out a major problem of
unexplained water in the fuel...

* LIGHT AND VARIABLE WINDS have been the index feature on deck for the
past very tiring 24 hours...continual sail changes and concentration
required to squeeze every tenth of a knot of boatspeed.

* BERNARD STAMM starting to pull back out in the west as the new
northerly breeze strengthens with the approach of a new depression in
the west. This new breeze will become the dominant feature, but will
touch those in the west first. KINGFISHER whilst still to to the east
of rumb line (direct route), has taken up a position to the west of
SILL and TISCALI, the leading pack.

LEARNING AND UNDERSTANDING : POWER GENERATION

Onboard KINGFISHER there are two sources of power, used to recharge
the 400Ah of battery power. Solar power and an engine with an alternator.
The engine, a Yanmar 27hp marine system, was fitted as new this winter.
The problem with the water in the fuel could come either from the original
source, or more worrying from a leak somewhere. Problem to be resolved!
The power take from the instruments varies from 6A to 20A when the
satcom B is transmitting and a massive 50A when the keel is being swung...
