Sergio Tacchini were making almost 10 knots more boat speed than their adversaries at 0500 GMT. In second, Franck Cammas on Groupama is also making great averages and has covered the most ground in 24 hours after miraculously finding a little vein of wind 90 miles further south. He had made a good 50 miles more than any other boat at 450.6. The winner of the Transat Québec Saint Malo 2000 revealed their strategy at this morning’s radio session. “We rounded the zone of high pressure as tightly as possible. We had to be in the south to have the best angle and the most wind possible. We took risks passing so close to the high pressure zone and it paid off, though just at the minute we’re not making any progress… There are numerous squalls but we can’t see anything in the darkness. As a result it’s difficult to anticipate their passage”. Reactivity is going to be key word of the day...
