Deadline extended...

Latest news is the arrival of the 50’ trimaran Jean Stalaven on Monday morning at 08 hours, 11 minutes and 05 seconds GMT. After over 14 days at sea and a fair while on rations it was a relieved Pascal Quintin, Raphaël Sohier, Charlie Capelle, and Christophe Brouster that crossed the finish line in Saint Malo. Completing the podium in the 50’ multihull class, their official race time was 14 days, 15 hours 36 minutes and 05 seconds at an average theoretical speed over 2950 miles of 8.17 knots. The excellent news for the four crews still out on the water is the extension to the race time limit.

There is still one multihull and all three monohulls still racing so the Race Committee and the organisers of the Québec Saint Malo have unanimously decided to extend the time limit for the finish. The first of the monohulls, Marina Fort Louis Ile de Saint Martin, is still 475 miles from the ramparts at 0800 GMT this morning, with Branec III 757 miles away and the latter, Ciment St Laurent still 850 miles, all of them averaging around 4 to 6knots.

Initially the Sailing Instructions indicated that the boats had to arrive within 10 days of the winner which would have been 29 July at 1350 GMT. Amendments now state that that the fleet must arrive 5 days after the first monohull, just rewards for the efforts put in by all the crews, particularly with an average speed of 3 x less than the Orma fleet.

The next arrival is likely to be Dominique Demachy on Gifi, still 264 miles from taking fourth place in 50’ Multihull category of this Transat Quebec Saint Malo...
