First 3 finishers of race 2 - Westernaustralia.com, 2nd Liverpool 08, 3rd Cardiff

After a 3500 mile transatlantic crossing Liverpool 08 managed to steal past the line in second place at 0049 hrs (GMT), just three minutes ahead of the Cardiff Clipper. Liverpool have fought hard to catch the lead boat but, westernaustralia.com was the first to arrive into the Port of Salvador, Brazil, after holding the lead for almost seven days straight.

Cardiff had indextained a strong position since the early part of the race where they broke away from the fleet and hugged the African coast. Combined with good weather interpretation, the Cardiff Clipper progressed from ninth place to second place, but then were justed pipped at the post by Liverpool 08.

Skipper of the Liverpool 08, Tim Magee said "Once again a very tight finish. We have one win under out belts and I am happy with that. Westernaustralia.com deserve this win, they have been on our biggest rival since the start. I am now looking forward to a few cold beers and then we will concentrate on the next leg."

After a 3500 mile transatlantic crossing, westernaustralia.com has taken the lead back from Liverpool 08 by winning leg one of the Clipper 05-06 Round the World Yacht Race. The Western Australia Clipper arrived into the Port of Salvador, Brazil at 2325hrs (GMT) to a traditional Brazilian welcome – chilled caipirinhas, music and a spectacular fireworks display lighting the up harbour. Westernaustralia.com will be the first to sample the legendary hospitality of the Centro Nautico da Bahia.

Westernaustralia.com Skipper, David Pryce said: “ I think I ground a couple of my teeth away last night worrying that Liverpool, just a breath away, would overtake in the fluctuating conditions so crossing the finish line in Salvador has been with both disbelief and relief!”
