Uniquely Singapore sails home to a heroes' welcome

Uniquely Singapore received a heroes' welcome this afternoon when they arrived in heir home port 15 days after leaving Fremantle.
The local crew sailed into Keppel Bay to be greeted by traditional Singaporean drumming and lion dancers, along with ice-cold Tiger beer and champagne.
Family members lined the harbour wall to welcome their loved ones into their home port after sailing over 15,000 miles from Liverpool.

Uniquely Singapore followed the other members of the group dubbed as the 'Fab Four' into Keppel Marina that they had motored to Singapore with over the past few days after the race was shortened.

The race organisers decided to shorten Race 5 on Tuesday 10th January due to a lack of wind, when it became apparent that the fleet would be considerably delayed into Singapore.
New York, who finished the race in 3rd place, was the first of the group to enter the harbour. Skipper Joff Bailey sprayed his crew with champagne before joining them to tuck into local satay and peanut sauce.
New York was closely followed by Victoria, skippered by Ewan Hind, and then Liverpool 08 skippered by Tim Magee. After finishing in 5th place, Liverpool have just managed to stay on the podium overall despite holding the same number of points overall as New York due to having secured a first place in Race 1.

The stage was then cleared for Uniquely Singapore and the homecoming all the crew have been anticipating over the past four months. After being mobbed by the local media the crew were reunited with friends and family, and tucked into the food and cold beers on offer.

After two weeks under the baking sun, with decks reputedly hot enough to fry eggs on, the crews downed the cold beers and made a beeline for the air conditioned Keppel Show Flat to celebrate arriving in a new continent, the fifth and final of the 10 month circumnavigation. The crews have now visited Europe, the Americas, Africa, Australasia, and now six of the crews can add Asia to that list.

A race record was set with four boats berthing within 30 minutes, and receiving a full welcome ceremony. With just four more boats expected, the whole fleet is set to be in Singapore by Tuesday afternoon in time for the prize giving reception.
