Singapore's rising solo star sails with Sir Robin
Up and coming Singaporean sailing star, Elaine Chua, sailed today with Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the first man to sail solo, non-stop around the world and one of the greatest ocean adventurers of all time. Sir Robin is visiting Singapore as Chairman of the Clipper 05-06 Round the World Yacht Race, which takes the ten racing yachts that are currently moored in Keppel Bay around the globe.

Elaine is one of only four women who have just competed in the prestigious Mini-Transat, a solo race from Lanzarote to Brazil. Ironically, Elaine arrived in Salvador, Brazil in October, just days after the Clipper Race had left for South Africa, but she got her chance to try out one of the 68 ft state-of-the-art racing yachts today on board the Glasgow Clipper.
Elaine said, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to sail with one of the all time sailing greats. A solo circumnavigation is my ultimate challenge and Sir Robin gives me this inspiration.”

Visiting dignitaries from as far a field as Scotland enjoyed a day on the water to race against the Uniquely Singapore Clipper.
At a reception after today’s sail, the British High Commissioner to Singapore, Alan Collins said: “We are proud to welcome the Clipper fleet to Singapore. It is the first time Singapore has had an entry in this race and I was lucky enough to witness the naming of Uniquely Singapore in England.”

The Clipper Race will reindex in Singapore until 27th January when they begin their next journey to Qingdao, China – the sailing city for the Beijing Olympics 2008.
