Clipper Reunited - 10 Years of Round the World Yacht Racing
In 1996 the first Clipper Round the World Yacht Race sailed away from Plymouth - ten years, over 1,500 people, 4 and a half races, 35 weddings and two fleets of fantastic racing yachts later, we would like to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Clipper with all our crew.
We now have more information on this milestone event and so would like to invite crews from '96, '98, 2000, 2002, 05-06 and 07-08 to join us on HMS Belfast on 15th September.
The sun has been booked, we are arranging to have a Clipper 68 alongside and like the Ocean Racing hero’s that you are, you will be piped aboard for sunset drinks on this famous warship.
We are taking over the whole ship and recreating the race with a variety of stopover themed buffets and local beers/cocktails… remember the Caipirinha in Brazil, Mojito in Galapagos, Kirin in Yokohama, Bintan in Batam…
Ticket pricing is still being finalised but will be between £30 and £40. We have a DJ, late bar license and bacon sandwiches at midnight.
There will also be a charity raffle on the night with one of the prizes being a berth on the Southern Ocean leg of the 07/08 race. Some people will be rubbing their hands at that one... many will be rolling their eyes and thinking "never again"!
With only 400 tickets available, and almost 200 already gone, you do need to get in touch quickly to secure your place.
We have e-mailed as many crew as possible but undoubtedly over the years many peoples email addresses will have changed so please help us by forwarding this message to as many people as you are still in contact with. Ideally, Clipper would also like a coordinator from each boat to help with keeping contact going, so willing volunteers would be welcomed! Thank you all those who have already volunteered to help with this – especially Julie, Abbey and Nicky – and to Matt who will be using his expertise to make the event look good!
