Clipper Round the World Yacht Race heads to Brighton
Visitors to Brighton have a unique chance to step aboard a 68ft ocean racing yacht this weekend (November 10-12), ahead of next year’s Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
One of the ten-strong fleet will be open to the public at Brighton Marina on Saturday November 11 and Sunday November 12.
There’s the chance to chat to round-the-world sailors and skippers, stand at the helm of the impressive ocean racer and go below decks to see the state-of-the-art navigation centre and race-friendly living quarters.
It’s a chance for people to find out what life is like at sea for 10 months – and, with berths still available on Clipper 07-08, decide whether the ultimate team challenge is one for them.
The seven-leg race departs from the UK in September 2007, returning in summer 2008. Around 350 amateur sailors will undergo Clipper Ventures’ intensive training before taking to the sea for the adventure of a lifetime.
Anyone with any level of sailing experience – including none at all – can apply to sail all or part of the circumnavigation.
The Clipper 68 is due to arrive at Brighton Marina on Friday evening (November 10) and will depart on Sunday (November 12).
On Saturday it will be open to visitors from 10am until 5pm, and on Sunday from 10am until 1pm.
