DAY 2: CHANGEABLE CONDITIONS, BUT STRONG WINDS Ahead...
Sunday, 26 March 2006 at 15:32
News from Ellen:
“Well it's been an interesting first 24 hours out here with changeable conditions, and lots of cloud cover now. It was good to start with clear skies and a relatively steady wind, though that all changed fairly quickly - and now things are more changeable.
Everyone is well, and we have eaten sensibly since we left. Less of the survival rations that the boys seem to have lived on during the delivery from Hong Kong - the weather for this has been on our side... not ideal for the record though.

Though the gradient wind should be relatively stable, the actual wind is not, with the constant heavy cloud that we are sailing through and under, which appears to be all over Japan, we are struggling a bit. The worst however to come is the strong wind we shall have at the tip of Japan... It will be very windy and incredibly rough, a little more of the survival mode - and with a very cold northerly wind to contend with, it's still not summer here either!
Loik is asleep as I type, and Charlie is in the cuddy - Shaun is on deck, and I am sitting here in my oilies just waiting to see if there is a squall in the big mass of grey cloud I can see out of the port window. The wind shifts of 60 to 100 degrees in a second or so has not been uncommon, so it's an interesting learning curve of the local weather conditions!
Hoping that all is well at home. It's nice to be back on the boat again, and enjoying being on the water. As I slept in my bunk last night for the first time I could not help but feel a massive relief - that the others were still on deck and looking after mobi - it's really nice to be sailing her with others, and sharing the work as well as the pleasure!!
All OK from Mobi in Asia, signing off”
