B&Q CROSS THE START LINE FOR LEG 6 TO HONG KONG..

B&Q have crossed the start line off Taiwan at 11:29:55 GMT today (20.04.06) to start Leg 6 to Hong Kong. Ellen and the crew will head towards the northern tip of Taiwan, where they will hope to round the tip within the next 2 hours to then gybe southwest towards the Straits of Taiwan. They are sailing in strong easterly 20 knots conditions, with 2 reefs and a solent, at 14 knots of boat speed. “We are happy to have crossed the start line and be on our way to Hong Kong,” commented Charles Darbyshire, “it looks like we will have strong conditions for the first section of this leg. Currently we are sailing in a very big swell, so we are taking it easy until we round the tip and head southwest into the Straits”.

It was always going to be a whistle-stop tour and the delayed arrival in Taiwan at the finish of Leg 5 - the halfway point of the eight-week long Asian Record Circuit - meant a very brief stopover for the crew of B&Q. Just 16 hours, in fact, and now Ellen, Loik, Charlie, Erwan, and Elaine are preparing to leave the berth at Pisha Harbour for the start of Leg 6 to Hong Kong. Estimated start time is around 1200 GMT and with the latest forecast from Commanders, they are hoping for a fast start as they head out into the Straits between Taiwan and indexland China and take a south-west course direct to Hong Kong hoping to beat their own target time of 2 days, 16 hours.
