Orange Code: Peyron prepares the troops

Press release N°6 Wednesday 14th June 2006
The latest weather charts are optimistic: a window of opportunity looks like presenting itself at the end of the week over the North Atlantic for the Orange maxi-catamaran… The skipper is gathering his troops together for a possible start on 18th June. The members of the shore-based weather team seem confident and confirm that the window of opportunity they have been watching looks very good, even if there is still a little uncertainty for the final stretch of the voyage. They now have to watch closely how the forecasts evolve, as they are relying on the weakening of a ridge over the Western approaches and Ireland. This sort of situation becomes a nightmare for those hunting records in the North Atlantic: we can all remember how PlayStation saw her speed drop right off in the final stretch during the attempt she made before her brilliant run in October 2001! Whatever happens, they need to be ready and that is why the crew of the Orange maxi-catamaran has been so excited today. As Bruno Peyron pointed out in laconic style, showing just how busy they were, « Grib (weather charts) this morning: we go to Orange Code for the window of opportunity 18 / 19. If confirmed, this opportunity opens up from noon on 18th. That means leaving Newport on 17th and being in the plane on 16th!!! »Peyron is waiting for some updated weather charts due during the night and will take the decision tomorrow morning whether or not to move to Green Code.A further press release will be issued tomorrow morning.
