Start postponed for Orange II
Press release N°7Wednesday 16th June 2006
The weather opportunity that was to allow Orange II to start was not as ideal as hoped and the observations made over the last few days about how the weather is evolving show that it is not favourable for a start on Sunday. The infamous ridge of high pressure located to the west of Ireland is tending to stretch out with the risk of light winds for the finish becoming too great for the Orange Team to set sail serenely across the North Atlantic. Bruno Peyron therefore took the decision this morning to cancel the start that was planned initially for Sunday and to postpone his attempt at the crewed North Atlantic record. As the conditions in the next few days do not look like allowing another window of opportunity for setting out, the Orange Team has therefore gone back to red code.
