PRESS RELEASE of 06/11/2006
Geronimo expected in San Francisco this evening
At first light in Europe, Geronimo finally managed to pick up some wind. From that moment on, the Capgemini/Schneider Electric trimaran has been covering the miles that separate her from San Francisco at more than 20 knots. If Geronimo keeps up this speed, she should cross the finish line sometime this evening (European time) and thus beat Bruno Peyron's record.
A northerly breeze is now pushing Geronimo along towards the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. At 14h 00 GMT, the trimaran was making 22 knots on the direct course towards San Francisco. This long awaited flow will maybe allow the French crew to finish before the 13th day of racing.
Bruno Peyron's record time: 14 days 17 hours 22' 50''
