A village under the sign of «Sustainable Development»

For the first time this year, the Transat Jacques Vabre village will be honouring sustainable development.

The Transat Jacques Vabre charter wall in the heart of the village
During the inauguration ceremony the Transat Jacques Vabre charter wall will be unveiled. This large 75m² tarpaulin shows the 5 major commitments of the Transat Jacques Vabre charter, surrounded by photos and signatures of all the skippers, sponsors, partners and organisers that have come together to work towards sustainable development. Right at the heart of the village, this wall aims to inform the general public.

A responsible coffee plantation on the quayside in Le Havre
Jacques Vabre will be setting up a reconstitution of a coffee plantation applying the principles of sustainable development. Inside the plantation, a fun trail for all the family will be set up to show the true advantages of certification by the NGO Rainforest Alliance and the economic, social and environmental impact. Coffee from farms applying these sustainable development principles can be tasted. This coffee will be served in cups that can be completely recycled.

Allowing everyone to show his or her commitment
The public attending in Le Havre will be able to show their own commitment by taking up the Earth challenge using the stands present around the Jacques Vabre cafés.

The Earth Challenge is an initiative from the Nicolas Hulot Foundation for nature and mankind and the ADEME (Environmental and energy conservation agency) in order to encourage as many people as possible to act in favour of environmental protection. Signing up for the Earth Challenge means showing your commitment to reducing your environmental footprint using some simple measures in our everyday life.

Cycle tracks and free guarded cycle park
Cycling will be encouraged by extending the cycle network to the entrance to the village, by setting up signs marked « Transat Jacques Vabre » on the city centre tracks and a cycle park at the harbour entrance.

Sorting rubbish in the village
A way to sort rubbish will be encouraged and made easier in the start village, thanks to special facilities put in place by the organisers. An educational campaign will also be in place aimed at visitors.
