ROXY 60' / Transat Jacques Vabre

Sam's diary :
"This is probably my last e-mail from Roxy on the Transat Jacques Vabre, as we should finish tomorrow morning. Finally, yesterday, we scraped past Cabo Branco on the Brasilian coast, without having to tack and we started to ease the sails and accelerate. I managed to sleep much better afterwards, with the noise of water rushing past the hull at 15 knots instead of 9!!! Now we have just changed to gennaker and are hooning along, almost out of control at speeds between 13 and 19 knots! To fast to risk the bucket shower yet, because when you're all soaped up and slippery, the act of scooping a bucket of water from behind the boat is a most dangerous affair!
We've spent this morning reminiscing about the mini-transat (our first solo race, where jeanne and I first met as competitors, which also finished in Salvador.) Probably because we are nearing the approach to Salvador de Bahia which holds many fond memories for us both! I'm looking forward to seeing the coast and the high-rise buildings, which make a spectacular landfall, especially after 19 days at sea. I think that we will see the lights first, as it looks like we will make our approach at the end of the night. The funny co-incidence is that I am going to do this race in exactly the same time as I did 4 years ago with Nick Moloney on Skandia Team Cowes! Then we arrived on the Thursday morning after 19 days of racing too!! More news after the finish (some beer, and a long sleep - i.e. in a couple of days!!!)"
