18/12/2008 07:20 325 miles from the 2nd Australian Ice Gate
The 4 frontrunners are heading towards the 2nd australian Ice Gate in
the South-East of Tasmania, at full speed again as Desjoyeaux has been
averaging 20,5 knots between 3:00 and 4:00 GMT. A slight change in the
hierarchy has occurred as Sébastien is back in third with a tiny
advantage of 1,5 miles on Jean Le Cam. Good news for Jean Pierre Dick,
he is back on a normal course, so we can imagine that he fixed his
rudder and he is back in the race. He is now 400 miles North of the
leading group.
17/12/2008 15:09 5 miles behind Jean Le Cam
1500 GMT Position report - Sébastien reduces the gap with Jean Le Cam
who is now only 5 miles ahead of BT. "I've had a tough morning with hail
squalls and fierce gusts, but it's quieter as we speak (editors' note,
at 11:00 GMT) since we're now in a transition phase between two systems.
I have 18 to 20 knots of wind, the seas are still quite big but much
less chaotic, the fact that we're not feeling the effects of the
Kerguelen shelf is quite obvious." Read the full story below...
17/12/2008 10:13 Jean Le Cam in third
Thanks to his south gap, Jean Le Cam onboard VM Matériaux takes the
third place from Sébastien Josse, now 4th, 84 miles behind the leader.
The situation in the leading group is really unpredictable and could
changed again throughout the day.
