26/11/2008 07:24 Jérémie Beyou arrived in Recife (Brazil)
Jérémie Beyou arrived in Recife (Brazil) a couple of hours ago. As he
explained yesterday during the daily call with the organisation, he
would like to climb on top of his mast as soon as possible in order to
decide if he can fix himself or not the damage to his rig. During that
time, the leading pack is still heading to the south. Last night, boats
situated in the west took the best option (Jean Pierre Dick, Mike
Golding and Roland Jourdain) with a better wind pressure and subsequent
better boat speeds. An average speed of 15 knots (throughout the night)
for Mike Golding and 13,6 knots for Loick Peyron.
25/11/2008 19:08 Just 10 miles behind Peyron
For more than a week, Loick Peyron has been leading the Vendée Globe
fleet without being threatened in any way (in total, he has been in
first position for 12 days). Tonight, according to the latest position
report, Sébastien is just 10 miles behind him, regaining 18 miles on the
leader since this morning (0400GMT) thanks to a slightly better boat
speed throughout the day. The weather forecast is not really clear for
the coming days with the St. Helena High Pressure System right in front
of the fleet. Read the full story below.
25/11/2008 15:05 Another 4 miles gained
Sébastien is now just over 13 miles behind the leader, and has a
30-miles advantage on third-placed Armel Le Cléac'h, who just overtook
Jean-Pierre Dick. It's interesting to see that Armel, one of the young
guns of this 2008 Vendée Globe, is in the leading trio with Sébastien,
his former Figaro rival - the two men being from the same talented
generation (also including Yann Eliès, currently 6th, and Jérémie Beyou,
who unfortunately was struck by gear failure).
