2/12/2008 07:20 Sébastien increases his lead over Peyron
Now almost 50 miles ahead of Gitana Eighty, BT sails at 41º South, doing
just over 15 knots. Third-placed Yann Elies aboard Generali, further
North but on the same heading, is now dangerously close to Peyron (2
miles!) in terms of distance to the finish, while PRB in 4th is to be
found some 25 miles behind Josse's pursuing duo.
1/12/2008 19:06 Battle of Gybes!
As the leading group, still led by Sébastien, is heading downwind to the
Ice Gate, the gybing battle is still raging in tight front pack. And the
proof is the near collision that PRB and Paprec-Virbac 2 could have had
this afternoon. In the middle of the South Atlantic, Vincent Riou just
had time to take the helm and move away as Jean Pierre Dick was sleeping
inside. Vincent called him afterwards to explain the near miss!
1/12/2008 15:22 Seb increases his lead
Sébastien has been leading the fleet of the 2008 Vendée Globe for 4 days
now, but today is the first time he manages to put a "decent" amount of
miles between him and Loick Peyron, lying 2nd. At the latest 1500 GMT
position, BT is now 43 miles ahead Gitana Eighty. After having dove
south to find stronger winds, Seb has gybed and his now heading to the
E-NE, closer to the direct route towards the Ice Gate, around 600 miles
ahead.
