4/12/2008 07:22 Neck and Neck with Generali
The 0400 GMT position report reveals a lot of changes and tiny distances
separating the leading trio. Sébastien and Yann Eliès are sailing neck
and neck as they dived in the south just after crossing the ice gate.
Jean Pierre Dick onboard Paprec Virbac 2 moved back to second and
crossed the race mark early this morning. In terms of distance to the
finish, he is only only 1,7 miles behind but distances do not really
reflect the situation on the water. BT and Generali clearly have an
advantage on the rest of the fleet.

3/12/2008 19:14 Sébastien first to cross the ice gate...
With Yann Elies hot on his heels, Sébastien crossed the Ice Gate
latitude (42º South) first tonight. He is also now in the eastern
hemisphere, having sped up a bit compared to this afternoon, Seb will
now work at increasing the distance that separates him from a very
menacing Elies... Weather-wise, the severe gale is expected to hit the
frontrunners tomorrow afternoon, and the forecast announces gusts up to
60 knots with the associated chaotic sea state. Should this prove
accurate, the skippers will have to activate the 'survival' mode and put
the pure regatta aside in order to let the worst of the depression get
past.
3/12/2008 15:05 Sébastien under pressure
Second-placed Yann Eliès gained ground on BT again, and is now only 11
miles away from the leader, sailing faster on the same heading but
further north! As expected by Sébastien when we spoke to him earlier,
Yann and himself have gained on the third skipper, Jean-Pierre Dick, now
12 miles further back than he was at the 10:00 GMT position report
(Paprec's distance to the leader is now 43.2 miles).
