6/12/2008 07:20 Game of snakes and ladders
3 changes of leader through the last 24 hours, the 9 frontrunners only
100 miles apart... The first boats will cross the longitude of Good Hope
in a couple of hours. Obviously, this Vendée Globe is incredibly
thrilling and of breathtaking suspense. This morning, Sébastien Josse is
leading the fleet again thanks to better speed average through the night
(16,4 knots) and close to 20 knots during the last hour. He is now 30
miles ahead of Yann Eliès and 48 miles ahead of Loick Peyron.
5/12/2008 19:03 Sébastien gains 20 miles on the leader
Benfiting from a much more stronger wind than Loick Peyron, Sébastien
onboard BT gained more than 20 miles on the leader over the last 4
hours. The fleet is now more than 200 miles apart, spread from the North
to the south, and is sailing in completely different weather conditions.
Loick Peyron is really slow and did an average of only 4,5 knots since
the last position report as Vincent Riou is sailing at an average of 15
knots.
5/12/2008 15:02 The Peyron escape
Gaining 37 miles between two position reports, 1st-placed Loïck Peyron
now has a advantage of almost 45 miles over Sébastien Josse. An escape
that was fully expected by BT's skipper, who explained when we spoke to
him earlier: "At the 15:00 GMT report, I'll be rather slow and the guys
up in the north (ie Peyron and Le Cléac'h) will gain some ground. But
they won't be able to pull away massively, and we (ie himself and Yann
Eliès) will be back up to speed this afternoon." Now on a south - east
heading just like the leader, Sébastien has been displaying the same
speed as Peyron over the last hour (8.5 knots) - looking at the average
between the 10:00 and the 15:00 GMT position reports explains the gap we
look at now, since Gitana "scored" 13.4 knots against 5.1 for BT. "I've
been parked for three hours", said Seb at 12:00. The wind is gradually
picking up this afternoon.
