Cheminées Poujoulat aboard the Marion Dufresne

Bernard Stamm and the teams from the Marion Dufresne and the TAAF have managed to load Cheminées Poujoulat aboard the Marion Dufresne. Bernard Stamm is also aboard and is relieved if exhausted. Sadly there is considerable damage to the hull of the Imoca 60.

The Marion Dufresne will now continue its mission towards Amsterdam Island, Mauritius and then the final destination of Reunion Island, which it is scheduled to reach at the end of the month.

“Cheminées Poujoulat’s” team and partners would like to thank all those who have assisted Bernard during this difficult time. Thanks go notably to the TAAF and its District head Frédéric Martineau, the commander and crew of the Marion Dufresne, the prefecture in Reunion and of course the French Navy whose divers played their part in the rescue.

The Kerguelen Islands You can only access the Kerguelen Islands via the sea and this in itself is a very difficult process. The wind constantly blows across the islands and the chop it kicks up makes manœuvres very tricky. Stamm has had a bitter experience of this. It’s a protected site which is fabulous, barren and hostile all at the same time. Bernard Stamm hasn’t had to leave his monohull here thanks to the solidarity of the seafarers who were on site.
