FINAL FURLONG FOR THE GREEN DRAGON
At 1300 GMT, Green Dragon was 36 nautical miles from the finish line at Rio de Janeiro, with Bouwe Bekking’s Telefónica Blue only 65 nm behind. At 1300 GMT, the Volvo Open 70 was sailing at 11 knots but as can be seen on the ground in Rio there is very little wind in the Guanabara Bay. The estimated time of arrival has now pushed back to 1630 GMT or 1330 local time but that looks a little optimistic at present.

Undoubtedly Telefónica Blue will be pushing hard to try and catch the leaders but there has been no word from either boat, we must assume the crews are concentrating hard on sailing as fast as possible in these tricky winds. We do know that Green Dragon is conserving as much power as possible for only essential instruments, as they are running very low on diesel.
