Day 1 - Into the Atlantic

Finding themselves further North than they would have liked this morning, Seb and Jeff aboard BT were nevertheless only 16 miles from the leader. Crossing the high pressure ridge when we spoke to them, they were sailing within sight of Veolia Environnememnt and expecting stronger southwesterlies for this afternoon.

Rested despite a rather demanding first night at sea, the two skippers are now preparing for two potentially tricky days on the tactical front, and should have made the big strategic decision of this Transat Jacques Vabre by Wednesday. "I'm cooking the first hot meal now", said Jeff when he picked up the phone for the first video conference of the race, "but we've managed to sleep and eat last night. It was very wet, shifty and shaky to begin with, after a very good start that once again proved us that the boat was very quick." Under pitch black skies and sudden rain squalls, BT powered her way towards the exit of the Channel, launching off massive waves and doing speeds exceeding 20 knots before the seas got flatter and the wind started to drop.
