PHOTO FINISH AS ZBIGNIEW GUTKOWSKI BEATS CHRIS STANMORE-MAJOR BY 40 SECONDS
TO TAKE SECOND PLACE IN VELUX 5 OCEANS SPRINT THREE
After over 6,000 miles alone at sea, Zbigniew Gutkowski (Pol) on Operon Racing and Chris ‘CSM’ Stanmore-Major (GB) on Spartan finished the third ocean sprint of the VELUX 5 OCEANS within 40 seconds of one another
Gutek took second place crossing the finish line in Punta del Este, Uruguay, at 1640 local time (1840 UTC) with CSM taking third place at 16:40:40 local time (18:40:40 UTC)
Gutek completed the leg from Wellington in New Zealand to Punta del Este in 25 days, 17 hours and 10 minutes, he sailed 6,828 nautical miles at an average speed of 11.1 knots.. CSM did it in 25 days, 17 hours, 10 minutes and 40 seconds, sailing 6,767 nautical miles at an average speed of 11 knots.
Canadian Skipper Derek Hatfield on Active House is expected to finish within the next hour.
