GOR Leg 2 start postponed due to forecast heavy conditions
Originally scheduled to start this Sunday, the Race Committee of the Global Ocean Race has postponed the start of Leg 2 from Cape Town due to forecast 40-45 knot headwinds.

At a meeting with the 12 GOR co-skippers at the event’s Race HQ in the V&A Waterfront Marina, GOR Race Director, Josh Hall, explained the decision: “With a 7,500 mile course across the Indian Ocean to Wellington, it really isn’t very smart to launch the boats into a 150-mile wide corridor of strong headwinds straight after the start in Cape Town,” said Hall who has been monitoring the weather closely over the past three days. Unanimously, the six double-handed Class40 teams agreed with the postponement.

The precise restart date and timing will be announced shortly.
