Fleet battle through unsettled conditions
After a night of close racing the 12 strong fleet of matched racing yachts competing in the Clipper 13-14 race continue its battle through the unsettled conditions of the Doldrums.
After a night of close racing the 12 strong fleet of matched racing yachts competing in the Clipper 13-14 race continue its battle through the unsettled conditions of the Doldrums , GREAT Britain indextained its lead overnight and in the last hour Mission Performance has overtaken the UK entry with only a few miles separating the two competitors, showing that this race really is anyones for the taking.
In the last 24 hours Henri Lloyd has managed to claw its way back into third place, as the juggling act at the top of the leader board continues.
Sean McCarter, skipper of Derry~Londondery~Doire who is now in fourth place after leading the fleet for more than a week during Race 2, said:
“The top half of the fleet has been playing 'Snakes and Ladders' while the bottom half has been constantly chipping away at the leaders’ miles. Second, third and fourth have been shared around by ourselves, Mission Performance and Henri Lloyd, sometimes with as little as 0.1 of a mile separating the positions. Incredible!”
Meanwhile as the rest of the fleet battle the uncertain conditions of the Doldrums, eager to reach the Southern Hemisphere is Vicky Ellis. Currently in ninth place the skipper of Switzerland shares her frustration over the constant squalls which continue to limit their progress.
“The night watches have been engulfed in a giant squall system which refuses to allow us to sail out of it, hampering our progress southwards.”
