Southerly yachts push north with lighter winds forecast
The fleet is in the middle of the Ocean Sprint section of the course, with the fleet coming closer together as their courses converge on the race into Cape Town.
Invest Africa is currently in Stealth Mode heading north-easterly from its more southerly position.
But there are fears the fleet will slow up with lighter winds forecast with a ridge of high pressure that is going to be pushing south in the next 24 hours.
The yachts to the south such as GREAT Britain and Derry~Londonderry~Doire have started pushing north so they have a better angle to the wind.
Jamaica Get All Right skipper, Pete Stirling, describes the waiting game.
“The South Atlantic High is slowly slipping south east in front of the fleet and as a result the wind will die away to virtually nothing - Doldrums part 2. We have all known this was coming for some time, thanks to the daily weather updates we get sent, so the question is which teams have got their tactics right and which ones haven't.
“The team that can get to the other side of the wind hole first will undoubtedly take line honours and the next 48 hours are going to be critical in deciding this. I'm quite sure the Clipper Race Viewer is about to get even more addictive. Here on Jamaica Get All Right, we are feeling pretty good about our tactical choice of being the most northerly boat in the fleet, but then I imagine most teams feel the same about their decisions."
