cape town, south africa - ALBANY, WEST AUSTRALIA
Race 4, cape town to albany, australia starts today
Race 4, Cape Town to Albany, West Australia starts today with the teams preparing for the big swells and winds on the Southern Ocean Sleigh Ride leg.
The twelve-strong fleet will perform a Parade of Sail in front of table Mountain ahead of the start of Leg 3 at 1430 local time, 1230 UTC.
Invest Africa skipper Rich Gould says the Southern Ocean is one of the biggest legs of the entire race and will become an endurance test.
“We expect big weather, big swells, big speeds and hopefully big smiles and a good position. We are looking forward to going down south and seeing how the boat is going to race with the big waves following us along - the biggest challenge is going to be the weather as the wind and sea state increases,” he added.
Henri Lloyd is currently at the top of the leaderboard after three races, followed by GREAT Britain in second and PSP Logistics in third position.
