Trans-Atlantic Race Will Start off North Cove on Sunday
Bringing early season excitement to the Manhattan waterfront, a Trans-Atlantic Race will start off Dennis Conner's North Cove on Sunday, June 1 at 12 noon.
This event is the New York to Barcelona Race. It will feature 5 Open Class 60 yachts which will sail across the Atlantic with 2 people.
The start will be held directly off North Cove, in front of Brookfield Place in Battery Park City.
From the start, yachts will race down the harbor and turn a buoy in front of the Statue of Liberty. Then the yachts will race back to North Cove, round a buoy, wave goodbye to spectators and head off on a grueling non-stop race across the Atlantic Ocean.

The 10 minute countdown will begin at noon with the actual firing of the start cannon at 12:10 p.m.
The cannon to start this Trans-Atlantic Race will be NYC's howitzer operated by the Veterans Corps of Artillery. This is the same cannon used to start the NYC Marathon. If you are on the esplanade watching, hold your ears!
It has been an exciting season so far a North Cove. A week ago, the Atlantic Cup visited. This week, it is the NY-Barcelona Race. Next week, it will be the Clipper Round the World Race.
Best wishes to all of our yachting friends and we look forward to catching your lines at Dennis Conner's North Cove this summer.
