The Alicante Race Village will be open
from October 2-11 with the first In-Port race on Saturday October 4 and the departure for Leg 1 to Cape Town on the Saturday October 11.
The media centre will be open from October 1 until the boats leave on Saturday October 11 in the afternoon.
Accredited media can pick up their press passes in the Accreditation Centre located in the entrance of the Race Village from October 1. If you have not accredited to access the media facilities and events, please do so here. It is mandatory to accredit online before. Accreditation registration will not be available on-site.
Media boats: there will be media boats available for limited accredited media looking to cover the In-Port Race and the Start. Reservations can be made on the following web form.
Final confirmation on secured spots will be made by email and include details on the boarding procedure. Photography RIBs are very limited and final allocation will be decided by the Picture Desk.
October 1 – Media Centre open and accreditation passes available
09:00 - Media Centre open
The media centre will be open from 09:00 to the entire duration of the stopover from October 1. Media will need to have their accreditation pass to access.
October 2 – Race Village opening day
18:00 - Race Village opening
The Race Village will open at 18:00 with an opening show for the general public.
20:00 – Media tour
There will be a ‘Round the World parade’ for local dignitaries and authorities from 20:00. Media are welcome to join the tour, starting outside the Sailors Terrace at 20:00. The dignitaries will be introduced to each team on the pontoon and then relocate to the Leaderboard for speeches afterwards.
21:30 – Race Village opening show
The ‘Round the World parade’ will continue on the Main Stage with a welcome speech by race CEO, Knut Frostad, followed by various performances.
Friday, October 3 – Skipper press conference
09:30 - Skippers press conference (Volvo Ocean Race Museum)
Race kick-off press conference opened by race CEO Knut Frostad with all seven skippers in attendance. Due to the tight sailing schedule there will be no interview opportunities after the press conference. To organize extra time with the sailors please get in touch with their team Press Officers as soon as possible.
And if you can’t make, we’ll post it on YouTube later in the day.
Saturday, October 4 – In-port race day
09:00 – 11:30 Media centre opens and media boat check-in for the day starts.
09:30 – 10:30: Volvo CEO Press Conference (Volvo Ocean Race Museum).
Håkan Samuelsson – President & CEO of Volvo Car Group, Olof Persson - President of AB Volvo and CEO of Volvo Group and Knut Frostad – CEO of Volvo Ocean Race in attendance.
11:30 – In-Port Race parade
12:30 – Media boat departure
14:00 – In-port Race
15:00 – 15:30 – Media boats return to Race Village.
16:00 – Volvo Ocean 65s return to dock and ceremony starts
17:00 – In-port Race Prizegiving
Wednesday, October 8
10:00 - Team Vestas Wind media day (in English)
Team Vestas Wind will host a tour for the media in English starting at the Vestas Pavilion with an introduction to Vestas and its involvement in the Volvo Ocean Race followed by a tour of the team’s boat on the dock. The tour will conclude in the Ocean Race Club for a round table session with one of the team’s crew members and a local Vestas representative. If you would like to attend, please RSVP by October 6 by emailing Irene Rodríguez and Morten Kamp.
Thursday, October 9
10:00 - Team Vestas Wind media day (in Spanish)
Team Vestas Wind will host a tour for the media in Spanish starting at the Vestas Pavilion with an introduction to Vestas and its involvement in the Volvo Ocean Race followed by a tour of the team’s boat on the dock. The tour will conclude with a round table session with one of the team’s crew members and a local Vestas representative. Last press conference with all seven team skippers before departing for Leg 1 to Cape Town on 11 October. Post-conference interviews must be arranged in advance with team representatives.
11:00 – Team SCA Press Conference (Volvo Ocean Race Museum).
The all-female team will be in attendance. For more information, please contact the team.
Saturday October 11 – Leg 1 Start
09:00 – 11:30 Media centre opens and media boat check-in for the day starts.
10:00 – 10:15 Departure interviews in crew holding area
Interview opportunities before the departure will happen inside the Sailors Terrace. Interviews must be arranged in advance with team Press Officers.
10:20 – Leg 1 Start Ceremony
Parade of Skippers and Crew to the Volvo Ocean 65 dock followed by a mayoral handover and blessing of the fleet
12:30 – Media boat departure
14:00 – Leg 1 Start to Cape Town
15:00 – 15:30 – Media boats return to Race Village.

**Note for media traveling to Sanya: To apply for an invitation letter for the Sanya stopover in January 2015, media must email Miguel.gomes@volvooceanrace.com before November 5.
