The Vendée Globe, an adventure to share with others

“An experience only matters, if you can share it with others.” That’s what Jean Le Cam told us. A leading light in the Vendée Globe, Jean answered some of our questions after his IMOCA 60’ was relaunched. He is still looking for partners to be able to line up at the start of his fourth solo round the world voyage and is doing his utmost to be there to charm the public with his wit and words of wisdom or when he sounds off.

Just like King Jean, all of the skippers competing in the next Vendée Globe will want to share their round the world adventure with as many people as possible. Rich Wilson’s project stands out. The eldest competitor in the eighth edition has set up a massive teaching programme for young people around the world and explains to us how it works.
Rich Wilson will be representing North America and will continue a saga that has been full of ups and downs. Since the first Vendée Globe in 1989-1990, skippers from the United States and Canada have made a serious contribution to the history of the event. That is the subject we deal with in our magazine feature this week, which you can find below.

Hope you enjoy this newsletter. Have a great weekend!
Out of the thirty skippers registered for the next Vendée Globe, nine are not French. Ten nations are represented including the United States with Rich Wilson, who will be setting sail on 6th November for his second attempt at the non-stop solo…
