Vice Admiral's Cup Regatta Indefinitely Postponed
In light of the weather forecast for very strong winds in the Solent over the coming weekend, the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club Cowes, (RCYC) has announced the indefinite postponement of racing for all classes in its Vice Admiral's Cup Regatta, which was to have taken place from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 May.
The RCYC will seek to reschedule the regatta for all classes with the exception of Class 0 which incorporates the British Commodore's Cup Team trials, for later in the year, possibly during September. The RYA will inform the British Commodore's Cup Team trial lists of any rescheduled event at the earliest possible opportunity. For further information please visit www.rcyc.co.uk or contact the RCYC Race Office on 01983 293581.
Speaking on behalf of the RCYC. Sailing Secretary Jo Chugg explained the club's decision. "Sadly the weather gods are not on our side for this weekend's planned Vice Admiral's Cup Regatta. The forecast for the Solent area indicates strong winds well in excess of 30 knots on all three of the planned racing days. The aim of the Vice Admiral's Cup is to run high quality racing for a wide range of classes, but with this forecast it is clear that conditions in the Solent will be extreme throughout the coming three days and that racing may not be possible at all. Following extensive consultation with the Race Officers Boib Milner, Rob Lamb and Stuart Childerley and the RYA, who have responsibility for the selection trials for the British Commodore's Cup Team, we have made the decision to indefinitely postpone racing for all classes. We will publish further information regarding the rescheduled event as soon as possible."
Further updates regarding the Vice Admiral's Cup will be published as soon as possible at www.rcyc.co.uk and further information can be obtained by contacting RCYC Sailing Secretary Jo Chugg on jo@rcyc.co.uk .
