Press release No.13 – Normandy Channel Race 2014 – 2 June 2014
A 5th edition that more than lived up to expectations!

The organisation responsible for the Normandy Channel Race already has its sights on the future and 2015, though its 5th edition will certainly go down in history. Indeed sailors, partners and enthusiasts of the race all agree that they will remember this epic course for a long time to come!

The last Class40 competing in the Normandy Channel Race fleet, CONCISE 2 (Juliette Pêtrès/ Philippa Hutton Squire) crossed the finish line early Sunday morning, thus bringing this action-packed edition to a close. Every one of the sailors competing in this fifth edition echoed the sentiment that this has been a truly exceptional event, exhausting yes, but also beautiful, action-packed, epic and now legendary!

This latest edition has made the event even more deeply entrenched in the region of Normandy, making it a truly unmissable meeting for the 40-foot monohulls, which have once again shown themselves to be in peak condition. The partner associations are delighted to support the event and together they provide the necessary stability for the race to continue to develop.

The city of Caen, the community from the Caen la Mer conglomeration, the Calvados departmental council and the Lower Normandy region, in collaboration with Sirius Evénements, the company responsible for organising the race, have pulled off the gamble to create what is a reference event on a competitive level, bringing together all the local watersports protagonists, whilst providing a show-stopping event, which everyone can enjoy.

Manfred Ramspacher, Director of Sirius Evénements, concludes: “2014 has been a great year for the Normandy Channel Race, both at sea and on shore. At sea this was achieved through an incredible battle and nail-biting suspense right the way to the finish line, the outcome of which was only decided in the closing miles. This is exactly the concept we’d intended for this event, namely a highly demanding week-long sprint. The event was also a success on shore thanks to the fine exhibitions and events lining the Bassin Saint Pierre, further bolstered by the presence of France’s maritime heritage. It’s a very fine fifth anniversary, which augurs well for even better next time!”

For 2015, the Normandy Channel Race has every intention of keeping all her promises!
