Bermuda America's Cup World Series - October 16-18, 2015
Bermuda is getting ready to host the third and last stop on the America's Cup World Series in 2015. Teams are allowed two days of training in their AC45F - Thursday October 15 and practice races on Friday October 16. Racing for points takes place on Saturday and Sunday, October 16 and 17, with two races per day and double points for Sunday's racing.
Racing will be on the Great Sound. If the wind is from the West or the East, and not too strong, the second race of the day will finish off Front Street in Hamilton.
Groupama Team France Defends C Class World Championship
Franck Cammas and Louis Viot easily won the C Class "Little Cup" on Lake Geneva last week. The America's Cup team with the smallest budget showed some very clever design ides with their C Class cat. They are the only team to use the C Class as their development boat. It remains to be seen if they can scale up their ideas from the C Class to the AC Class race boat they will launch at the end of 2016.
"Constructed in Country?" Not Necessary!
The latest version of the Protocol removes the "constructed in country" requirement of the Deed of Gift. Now only the outer surface of the removable 2.7 meter long bow section needs to be built in the competitor's home country:
35.15. Constructed in country: Each Competitor's AC Class Yacht shall satisfy the constructed in country requirements of the Deed of Gift if the exterior surface of the forward section of each Hull is laminated in the country of the yacht club represented by the Competitor. The surface of these forward sections shall be as defined in Rule 7 of the AC Class Rule and shall be no less than 2.7m long measured aft from the Stem plane. The constructed in country requirements of the Deed of Gift shall not apply to any other parts, structure or components of the AC Class Yacht.
2016 America's Cup World Series Schedule
America's Cup Event Authority announced at a Town Hall meeting in Bermuda last week that there will be six events in 2016:
February: Middle Eastern venue TBA (rumored to be Abu Dhabi)
May: New York City
June 10-12: Chicago
July 22.24: Portsmouth
August: Gothenburg
October: Tokio
Important: only the events in Chicago and Portsmouth are confirmed. It is not clear why ACEA would announce dates for the other events, which are not yet confirmed. According to the Protocol, the February event is required to be confirmed in a few days - by September 30. Events in the last three quarters of 2016 need not be announced until December 1, 2015.

The Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series runs over two years - 2015 and 2016. The winner of the series will carry two points forward into the round robin phase. Second place in the series carries one point. At the end of the round robin, any ties will be broken using these results. That means the AC World Series could determine which team receives the bonus point for the America's Cup Match and which team is eliminated.
