Although the 2017 is well underway, the Melges 24 worldwide final ranking results of 2016 have been published now and International Melges 24 Class Association IM24CA interviewed the winners of the rankings. The winners both of the world and continental rankings will be perpetuated to the Melges 24 World Ranking Hall of Fame

Organizers are working on the other ferry deals for Sweden-Helsinki & Tallinn EST-Helsinki from Tallink and these will be announced next week.
To test the waters of the Worlds the best training for the Melges 24 sailors would be the Melges 24 Finnish Open Nationals held one week before the Worlds on the same venue on July 22-23. The Notice of Race for this event will be published shortly.
The best options for the pre-Worlds training will be:
1. Nordic and Swedish Melges 24 Championship, European Sailing Series event in Marstrand, SWE, June 16-18
2. Hanko Race Week, one of the most popular Melges 24 events in Norway - Fredrikstad, June 28-July 2 - Read the Norwegian class' introduction and logistic information
3. Kiel Week, famous Kieler Woche in Kiel, Germany on June 22-25
IM24CA is working on the travel plans and boats/cars storing options in Stockholm area to leave the boats there before going to Helsinki at the end of July.

Launch Party in Royal Victoria Yacht Club on March 25
Join the Victoria International Marina - the Platinum Sponsor of the 2018 Melges 24 Worlds, in celebrating the launch of the Melges 24 World Championship 2018 - with the Regatta Launch Party at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club, BC, Canada on Saturday, March 25th.
The drop-in, no host cocktail party starts at 5 pm with a presentation by Regatta Chair Past Commodore Terry Stamper at 7:30 pm. Hear the preliminary details for the event and celebrate the official launch of the upcoming preparatory year.
The Melges 24 Worlds organizing committee including Canadian Melges 24 Class Association, would love your support, either through a variety of volunteer opportunities or sponsorship support, as they welcome the world to their waters.

AUSTRALIA: The New President of the Melges 24 Australian Class is Ken Abbott
International Melges 24 Australian Class Association has elected the new President - Ken Abbott. Ken is sailing on Melges 24 Vostok Europe AUS133 and has been a generous sponsor for the Vostok Europe series regattas for a couple of years.
IM24CA would like to thank former president David Royle for all his time and efforts contributing voluntarily to the Melges 24 class in Australia keeping Melges 24 spirit high there. We wish to Ken all the best in his new role!

North Sails caught up with Giulio Desiderato, tactician on ITA841 Bombarda and asked him about his teams' accomplishment as the top boat in the Melges 24 Class World Rankings.
AUSTRALIA - Kevin Nixon on Bandit/ACCRU wins Sydney Harbour Regatta 2017
It was a wet weekend but super close racing for the Sydney Harbour Regatta - Middle Harbour Yacht Club MHYC on March 4-5
Kevin Nixon on Bandit/ACCRU was winning the regatta ahead of Andy Wharton/Accrewedinterest and Dag Russell/Amigos.
U.S. - Kevin Welch on Mikey Leads Bacardi Miami Sailing Week
Yesterday, the first races of the 2017 Bacardi Miami Sailing Week Regatta Trophy were held in addition to the legendary Star Class Bacardi Cup.
Until March 11th, international fleets will compete in the classes Viper 640 (their EFG Pan-American Championship), J70, VX Ones, A-Cats, the Melges 24, M32 and others.
Kevin Welch & Mikey scored 7pts (3-1-2-1) ahead of Brucey Ayres' Full Throttle with 10 pts (2-4-1-3) and John Brown's Blind Squirrel with 13pts (1-3-5-4). Full results

AUSTRALIA - Vostok Europe Series Part 2 on March 18-19
Vostok Europe Series Part 2 is the final weekend in the biggest prize regatta in the Australian Melges 24 calendar. Racing for the beautifully crafted Vostok Europe sports watch.
The event is still wide open with only 2 races completed in the first series weekend in 2016. The prize for the winning boat is a beautiful and valuable Vostok Europe watch. Weekend result winners will celebrate with award winning South Australian wines. Accommodation is available very close to the club for those wishing to travel to the event.
Melges 24 Australian Class Association is looking forward to lots of you on the water to celebrate this very generous sponsorship.

Melges 24 U.S. National Championship will be a stand-alone championship event and will be hosted just two weeks in advance of the world-famous Sperry Charleston Race Week, making it the perfect warm-up event and the ultimate spring-time, double-header for the Melges 24 Class. Already a host of information is available on the Melges 24 US National Championship - Act 2 of the 2016/17 Quantum World Winter Series and Stage 1 of the NorAm Tour 2017.

CHILE - Upcoming Chilean Ranking 2017 Events
After a successful Chilean Melges 24 National Championship 2017 held in February, Chilean Melges 24 Class will resume their 2017 Ranking on Lake Rapel on March 18 and April 1st.
Impressive fleet of 18 teams was taking part of the Chilean Nationals and it's great to see how active Chilean class is! Keep going!

SLOVENIA - Melges 24 Spring Training in Portoroz
Before the start of the 2017 Melges 24 European Sailing Series in Portoroz, Melges 24 Italian Class will organize two weekend training camps run by Davide Stulle. Dates would be March 31-April 2 and April 7-9. Any boats who would like to train can join the great offer made by the Marina Portoroz.
